Book Mail Round-Up 💌

This week's round-up of beautiful book mail!

I'm excited to begin sharing a roundup of the book mail I've received recently. I can't wait to delve into these books and share my thoughts through reviews!

As always, thank you to all the authors and publishers for sending these out to me! 🫶🏻

The Matchstick Boy by Rowena Kinread:

The Matchstick Boy by Rowena Kinread is a compelling exploration of a small town's hidden darkness, weaving together themes of secrets, betrayal, and the relentless pursuit of justice.

The story begins with the tragic death of Jakob's younger brother, Josef, in a rockslide. Jakob suspects foul play, having seen someone on the ridge just before the accident, but his claims are dismissed by a community unwilling to confront the truth.

Jakob's suspicions focus on Ramun, the privileged son of the matchstick factory owner, yet his quest for justice is met with indifference. Decades later, tragedy strikes again when Jakob's deaf daughter is assaulted by Ramun, resulting in an unwanted pregnancy.

This reignites Jakob's determination to expose the secrets buried within the community. As he delves deeper, Jakob uncovers long-concealed truths, only to find that the path to justice is fraught with deception and resistance.

Thank you so much to the author for sending me this book, it is self-published.

Love Letters to a Serial Killer by Tasha Coryell:

Hannah, our main character, becomes obsessed with solving the murders of four women, only to find herself falling in love with the very man on trial for those crimes after exchanging letters with him. Desperate for love, Hannah’s vulnerability and obsession lead her down a dark path, and you can’t help but sympathise with her.

The book brilliantly captures the intensity of Hannah's fixation, blending the chilling aspects of a serial killer mystery with her spiralling obsession. Watching her life unravel is like witnessing a slow-motion train wreck, as she ignores one red flag after another. It’s a tense, frustrating journey that resonates because let’s be honest—we’ve all ignored red flags before.

Thank you so much to the author - Tasha Coryell and the team at Orion Books for sending me a copy of this much-loved book!

How We Named The Stars by Andrés N. Ordorica:

How We Named the Stars is a deeply moving story that follows Daniel de La Luna, a first-generation Mexican college student navigating life at a prestigious East Coast university. Away from his family for the first time, Daniel is not only adjusting to college but also confronting his long-held understanding that he is gay.

Feeling isolated and unprepared for this new chapter, Daniel finds solace in his unexpected connection with his roommate, Sam, a jock with a surprisingly gentle and caring nature. As their friendship deepens, Daniel’s feelings for Sam grow, but the heart of the story is about more than just their relationship. It's about how men express love, the complexities of grief, and how healing can arise from vulnerability.

Thank you so much to the author - Andrés N. Ordorica as well as Rebecca and the team at Saraband Books for sending me a copy of this book.
