"The verdict may as well come down to a coin toss. A fifty-fifty".
I read this whilst on holiday in Fuerteventura, this is a great book for sun, sea, sand and a cocktail. I think I read this book in the space of a few days.
I discovered the author and the Eddie Flynn Series last year while on my honeymoon and I was hooked - see review here.
Alexandra Avellino stumbles upon her father's mutilated corpse and urgently summons the police. She's convinced her sister committed the heinous act and is still lurking in the house armed with a knife.
Meanwhile, Sofia Avellino discovers the same grisly scene and frantically calls for help, accusing Alexandra of the crime and fearing she's barricaded herself in the bathroom.
As both sisters prepare to face trial together, sharing one jury, it becomes clear that one of them is deceiving.
A murderer walks among them,
In a battle of wits, two defence teams clash with each other and the prosecution, who are indifferent to whether one or both sisters committed the crime, as long as someone is convicted. The motive is stark: their father, a wealthy man, was poised to amend his will, leaving one of them out. Both sisters endured neglect and cruelty from their parents, fostering deep-seated resentment and psychological scars.
To avoid spoilers, I won't discuss the twists that make this suspenseful thriller so riveting.
Narrated from multiple perspectives, including those of the defence teams and the accused, the story unfolds with chilling precision.
This psychological roller coaster of a tale keeps you on the edge of your seat, constantly questioning which sister is responsible for their father's murder. With each new piece of evidence, the intricate backstory unfolds, interwoven with present-day murders that escalate the tension until the very last page.
I'm eager to dive into more books in this series! Thankfully, being fashionably late to the party has its perks, as these books don't require a strict chronological order, the author re-caps the background of the characters.
