Harrogate, a picturesque town nestled in the heart of North Yorkshire, is renowned for its historic charm, lush gardens, and soothing spa waters. However, once a year, this tranquil town transforms into a vibrant hub of literary enthusiasm as it hosts the Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival, a delightful event produced by Harrogate International Festivals. I was fortunate enough to receive an invitation to attend this exceptional literary celebration.
The Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival is primarily held at the Crown Hotel, a luxurious establishment that offers the perfect setting for an event of this magnitude. The venue's elegant, Victorian-era architecture and its warm, welcoming atmosphere provided an inviting backdrop for the festival. From the moment I arrived, I felt the anticipation and excitement in the air.
The festival consistently attracts some of the most renowned authors, poets, journalists, and thinkers from around the world. As a book enthusiast, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to hear from, and even meet, some of my favourite writers.
The festival's program was a diverse tapestry of events, featuring book readings, panel discussions, author interviews, and book signings. It was a literary buffet, offering a little something for every palate. Whether you're into crime thrillers, historical fiction, contemporary literature, or poetry, the festival had it all.
The events that I was lucky enough to attend were:
What's Next for the NHS? (The panel included the authors Stephanie Snow and Dr Waheed Arian).
Luke Jennings: From Page to Screen (who you may recognise from the Killing Eve series).
Regrettably, Flavour 101 with Niki Segnit had to be cancelled due to the severe storm and adverse weather conditions. I was deeply disappointed because I had been eagerly looking forward to seeing her. Since relocating, my affection for my kitchen has grown, and it would have been the ideal opportunity to absorb her wealth of culinary expertise.
The festival also featured an adorable and memorable short story generator. With over a thousand stories readily available, you could choose between a 1-minute read, 2-minute read, or 5-minute read. It was truly a delightful highlight!
I'd like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Lisa McKiddie, the Digital and communications Manager at Harrogate International Festivals, for graciously granting me the opportunity to attend and share in this special day with everyone. Many people have reached out and expressed their enjoyment when I went live at the festival, some even expressing their intention to join in next year! Hopefully, I will get to meet you all at future events and, of course, at the next festival.
If you attended the festival, please do share your experiences and your personal festival highlights. I'd love to hear all about it!
I’ve included all of the above books in my Amazon Storefront, feel free to take a look.
