This week, I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the Press Night for &Juliet at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford. A special thank you to Emma for this invitation.
Attending the press night of &Juliet at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford was nothing short of spectacular. This vibrant, high-energy musical takes one of Shakespeare’s most well-known tragedies and turns it on its head, offering a fresh and empowering perspective on Juliet’s story.
Rather than meeting her famous fate, Juliet chooses to embrace a new beginning filled with self-discovery, love and plenty of fun.
Created by Emmy-winning writer David West Read, known for Schitt’s Creek, this production is packed with humour, heart and an irresistible pop soundtrack. Featuring the legendary hits of Max Martin, the show had the audience singing along to chart-toppers such as …Baby One More Time, Roar and Can’t Stop the Feeling. Each number was seamlessly woven into the narrative, adding emotional depth and playful energy to Juliet’s journey.
Leading the cast was Gerardine Sacdalan as Juliet, whose performance was nothing short of breathtaking. She brought both power and vulnerability to the role, delivering vocals that left the audience in awe.
Jay McGuiness, best known for The Wanted and Strictly Come Dancing, charmed as Shakespeare, bringing warmth and charisma to the stage.
Dr Ranj Singh as Lance was a true delight, adding a comedic flair that had the audience roaring with laughter.
Visually, the production was stunning. The set, lighting and costumes created a dazzling spectacle that enhanced the excitement of Juliet’s reimagined world. The choreography was dynamic and electrifying, perfectly complementing the infectious energy of the music.
What makes &Juliet truly special is its message of self-empowerment and second chances. It celebrates the idea that life does not have to be defined by the past and that we all have the power to rewrite our own stories.
The show is a joyous, uplifting experience that leaves audiences buzzing with excitement long after the final curtain call.
For those looking for a night of feel-good fun, powerhouse performances and anthemic music, & Juliet is a must-see. Whether you are a Shakespeare fan or simply love a great musical, this production offers something for everyone. There is life after Romeo, and it is fabulous!
