⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Kane Black is a widow and still married to his late wife Lily, as grief has made it hard for him to move on. That is until he meets a woman, who is beautiful just like Lily, on the streets of Manhattan. He decides he must have her and this begins his obsession of having and protecting her. Kane’s mother thinks his obsession with Lily is dangerous and his sister-in-law Amy wants nothing more than to take revenge.
As someone who loved the Bared to You series, I was thrilled to see Day’s characteristic blend of emotional depth and sizzling romance once again on display.
So Close hooks readers from the very first page, delivering a captivating narrative that keeps you engaged throughout. Day’s expertise in crafting intense emotional and romantic scenes is evident, making it a page-turner that’s hard to put down. The book is packed with intrigue, passion, and most importantly SPICE 🌶️
The storyline, while engaging, contains numerous plot holes that leave readers with unanswered questions. Additionally, the book introduces an overwhelming number of characters, each with their own subplots, which can be difficult to follow. The sheer volume of characters dilutes the focus, making it hard to connect deeply with any single one.
The insufficient backstory for many characters hampers the overall flow of the narrative. The reader is often left wanting more context and development, which would have provided a richer and more satisfying reading experience. The absence of this background information makes some plot points feel rushed and underdeveloped.
Overall, I did enjoy the story and plan to continue with the series. While I appreciated the nod to the original books with Gideon and Eva, the frequent shifts between characters disrupted the flow for me. I found myself wanting more focus on Lily and Kane's storyline specifically.
