After splitting up with her non-committal and emotionally distant boyfriend, Hanna returns to her hometown of Oxford to live with her dad while she searches for a new place to call home.
Already questioning if she made the right decision, she quickly realises that finding affordable housing is no easy task. To make matters worse, she's horrified to discover her dad is on Tinder and bringing dates back to their flat, while her own dating life seems to be at a standstill.
As Hanna navigates her new job, her dad's dating adventures, and the milestones of her friends' marriages and pregnancies, she gradually creates a better relationship with her parents and gains a clearer sense of herself and her desires.
Nell’s debut fiction novel is a compelling read. Although I initially found it a bit slow, I soon found myself flying through the pages. Society often teaches us that by the age of thirty, we should have achieved significant milestones: a thriving career, a successful relationship (perhaps even with an engagement ring), and owning a home with a mortgage. However, in reality, achieving all of these goals can be incredibly challenging, and in some circumstances, starting over from square one becomes necessary.
The writing in was humorous, blending clever witticisms and sardonic observations that resonated deeply with me as a Millennial. It served as a poignant reminder that reaching 30 doesn't mean having everything sorted out.
