The Salt Flats 🧂🖤

Martha and Finn's marriage is on the brink of collapse after years of accumulated issues. In a courageous attempt to seek healing, they journey to the Bolivian Salt Flats and the Salt Centre, guided by shaman Señor Oscar. Joining them are two other couples: Londoners Hannah and Zoe, and Americans Rick and Barb. Each seeks truth and enlightenment, hoping to shed their burdens.

Despite a slow start, the novel captivates with its vivid depiction of the Salt Centre, Oscar, and the intriguing characters. The stark, desolate landscape perfectly complements the increasingly surreal events. The author's descriptions are so evocative that you feel present in this remarkable setting.

Character development is a strong point, especially with Finn and Martha. Martha's anxiety, particularly about climate change, reflects a significant theme linked to the Bolivian setting. Finn remains an enigmatic figure, but the experience profoundly impacts him. Señor Oscar and his methods are open to interpretation.

As the retreat unfolds, an escalating sense of fear and darkness permeates the narrative. The harsh environment poses numerous challenges, shifting the focus to survival. Suspense and tension build, leaving many questions about right and wrong.

This book draws you in with its gripping narrative, marked by a sombre and intense atmosphere and exceptional writing.
