For years, I've been an avid enthusiast of crime thrillers and detective novels. I relish the adrenaline rush of the chase, the satisfaction of unravelling 'whodunnit,' and witnessing the apprehension of criminals, leading them to justice. But have you ever wondered what transpires beyond the arrest?
In Unlawful Killings, Wendy Joseph QC (since retired) guides us through six fictionalised murder trials she's presided over as a Judge. With clarity, composure, and profound empathy, she unveils the fates of the victims and the intricate proceedings involving the perpetrators.
🔍 How are juries selected?
🔍 What evidence is presented or concealed?
🔍 What guidance aids jurors in their deliberations?
This exceptional book unveils it all. It's essential to note that each case delves into distressing details, and this may cause an emotional reaction, some of the cases are hard-hitting and discuss rape, adult murder, knife crime, honour killings, child murder, baby murder, and slavery.
From the very beginning, I found myself hooked, and the author adeptly explained the cases, as well as the evidence and laws guiding the decisions. While I attempted the audiobook, I struggled to stick with it due to some grating accents and impersonations.
This is a book I intend to keep on my bookshelf and recommend to others. If you enjoyed both The Secret Barrister, books and The Secret Magistrate, then Unlawful Killings is a must-read for you too!
