That question immediately came to mind while reading The Pumpkin Pie Book Nook by Harper Graham. Filled with crisp autumn days, pumpkin pie, cosy reading nooks and a heartwarming small-town community, this is the kind of romance that feels like curling up under your favourite blanket with a warm drink in hand.
Before I even started reading, the gorgeous autumn-inspired cover had me reaching for this book. It perfectly captures the cosy atmosphere inside and gives you a taste of the charming world waiting beyond the first page.
Robyn is a literature professor determined to return to her career at Yale after a temporary stay in Maple Falls. Tyler is a bookseller, devoted single dad and firmly rooted in the town he calls home. Neither expects their paths to become so intertwined, but as autumn settles over Maple Falls, both begin questioning whether the futures they imagined are really the ones they want.
From the very beginning, I completely fell for the setting. Harper Graham creates a town that feels wonderfully welcoming, full of independent businesses, friendly faces and the kind of community you can't help wishing existed in real life. I especially loved the map at the beginning of the book. It made Maple Falls feel even more real and had me mentally planning walks around the town long before the story had finished.
The cosy atmosphere is one of this book's biggest strengths. Between the bookshop, homemade pumpkin pie, colourful autumn leaves and endless bookish references, every chapter embraces everything readers love about the season. If autumn could be bottled into a book, this would be very close.
Robyn and Tyler were both easy characters to root for. Their relationship develops naturally as they balance ambition, family and the uncertainty of what comes next. Tyler's relationship with his daughter Emma adds another layer of warmth to the story, while the found family element brings a comforting sense of belonging that runs throughout the book.
The supporting characters were equally memorable. I especially loved the older ladies, who seemed to know everything happening in town and weren't afraid to involve themselves when needed. They added plenty of humour while reinforcing the close-knit community that makes Maple Falls so appealing. Growing up in a small town myself, I couldn't help wishing mine had been quite this cosy.
Although the romance follows a familiar path, that never felt like a weakness. Sometimes a predictable story is exactly what you're looking for, especially when it is wrapped in such an inviting setting with characters you genuinely enjoy spending time with. Rather than relying on dramatic twists, the story succeeds because of its warmth, charm and comforting atmosphere.
I also loved discovering that, although this is the fifth book in the Maple Falls series, it works perfectly as a standalone. At the same time, seeing glimpses of returning characters has definitely made me want to go back and experience the earlier books before returning for future visits.
Cosy, romantic and overflowing with autumn charm, The Pumpkin Pie Book Nook is the perfect seasonal escape for anyone who loves small-town romance, bookshops, found family and plenty of pumpkin spice.
